WHEN we think of sunglasses, with their respect to eye protection, we think first of UV protection. The Suns’ Ultra Violet Rays have both positive and negative effects on the human condition. As an example of one of the positive effects of the suns’ rays is that they induce the production of Vitamin D in the human skin. This is easier for some people than drinking milk! Obviously, this is only a positive effect when the exposure is limited , with respect to the the sun bathers’ skin pigment, and at the proper time of day. Over, or improper exposure can cause sunburn and other skin maladies.

HOWEVER, it is the UV rays’ effects on the eyes that concerns us. According to Wikipedia, when the eyes are exposed to excessive amounts of UV light, eye structures such as the retina, cornea, and lens can be damaged. WIKIPEDIA further states “Protective eyewear is beneficial to those who might be exposed to UV radiation, particularly short wave UV’s. Mountaineers are exposed to higher than ordinary UV radiation, both because there is a loss of atmospheric filtering, and because of reflection from snow and ice.”

MOST Important to this discussion of eye protection is the following information from Wikipedia. “Ordinary untreated eyeglasses give some protection. Most plastic lenses give more protection than glass lenses, because glass is transparent to UVA, and the common acrylic plastic used for lenses is less so. Some plastic lens materials, such as POLYCARBONATE, inherently block most UV. There are protective treatments available for eye glass lenses that need it, which give better protection. BUT, even a treatment that Completely Blocks UV, Will Not Protect the Eye from Light that Arrives Around the Lens.”

So POLYCARBONATE lenses seem to be a natural solution to eye protection from UV rays. IN particular, the Dry Eye series of polycarbonate, polarized, sunglasses, by Wiley X Co., give even more protection. The Dry Eye Series, also known as Climate Control Sunglasses have a removable inner Facial Cavity Seal(tm). This comfortable, ergonomically designed foam seal fits the Universal Adult Face. The Dry Eye Series of Sunglasses, with Polarized Polycarbonate Lenses give the eyes multiple layers of protection in the following ways:

1-The Facial Cavity Seal blocks out harmful UV Rays from the sides, as well as the top and bottom of the sunglasses.

2- The Facial Cavity Seal blocks out wind which can cause eye strain and dry out the eyes. This Can cause symptoms of Dry Eye Syndrome, particularly in older adults.

3-The Facial Cavity Seal has a patented top down(tm) ventilation system, which keeps the eyes cool and comfortable, while keeping the lenses fog free.

4- The Polarized, Polycarbonate lenses block out, not only 100% of Harmful UV rays, but also contain 99.9% Polarization, which virtually eliminates harmful glare, resulting in clear, sharp, unstrained vision.

5- The Facial Cavity Seal also blocks out airborne debris, such as sand and pollen.

6- Last, But Not Least, the patented(tm), State of The Art, Polycarbonate,Polarized Lens surpasses ANSI Z87.1-2003 High Velocity and Ballistic Safety Standards, and are worn by many of US Military personnel in the most Extreme Hazardous Conditions. They are virtually in a word, (Shatterproof).

When All of the above stated features are combined with various, stylish, wrap around, functional, durable, frames that are virtually indestructible the result is a pair of versatile protective sunglasses with Multiple Layers of Eye Protection.
